Highlights

Okanagan College offers cooperative education programs, learning resource centres, student employment services, Aboriginal support services, financial aid and awards, accessibility services, educational advising, campus recreation programs, and an intercollegiate baseball team. Its bigger campus on Kelowna also offers 143 furnished on-campus accommodations.

REQUIREMENTS

Age Requirement:  Applicants must be 18 years of age, or turn 18 during their first semester. Applicants who are 17 years of age may be admitted if they  have completed British Columbia Grade 12 or equivalent, or if they wish to study for the summer session only.

English  Language Requirement:  Please check your program admissions requirements for the level of English required.

For University or College Graduates:   Applicants who have successfully completed a diploma or degree from an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction may submit their academic transcript for review by Okanagan College. Subject to verification, this diploma or degree may be used to meet the English requirement for admission to Okanagan College. In addition to English, all students must meet program specific prerequisites.  Documentation of English language proficiency should be sent directly to:  Okanagan College International Education, 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna, British Columbia, V1Y 4X8, Canada.

Academic Requirements: Proof of high school graduation

Transferring to University:  Students have the option of completing some degree programs at Okanagan College, or transferring courses to another university to complete their degrees. Please note that each university has its own admission requirements.  Check the online Okanagan College Calendar for required pre-requisites.  Length of Programs: Degree programs in Canada normally take 4 years to complete; diploma and associate degree 2 years, and a certificate program is 1 year or less.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

ESL Certificate

  • High Beginner levels
  • 20 hours/week of class instruction

EAP Certificate

  • Intermediate to advanced levels (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening)
  • Average of 20 hours/week of class instruction
  • Programs begin in January, May, July, and September
  • Students at advanced EAP levels may combine EAP with diploma/degree  courses
  • Successful program completion meets the English requirement for all academic programs at Okanagan College and the English Language Admission (ELA) requirement for UBC Okanagan
English Language Assessment

New ESL and EAP students are assessed through the Okanagan College English Language Assessment (OCELA) to determine their placement in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Alternatively, new  EAP students may also present their IELTS or TOEFL scores and do not need to take the OCELA.

Age Requirement

Applicants must be:

  • at least 18 years of age OR
  • turn 18 during their first semester at Okanagan College OR
  • have completed the equivalent of British Columbia grade 12.

Applicants who are 17 years of age may be admitted to the Spring and Summer sessions of the English for Academic Purposes program and to any of the Intensive English Communication program sessions.
