Greater Essex County District School Board

The Greater Essex County District School Board was formed on January 1, 1998 with the amalgamation of the Windsor and Essex County Boards of Education.

We have schools in nine municipalities: Windsor, LaSalle, Amherstburg, Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Essex, Kingsville, Leamington and Pelee Island.

For the 2017-18 school year the GECDSB will operate 70 schools – 55 elementary and 15 secondary plus an adult education program and three Agency schools. We have approximately 36,000 students served by 4,700 employees.

Highlights

The Greater Essex County District School Board administers 15 secondary schools and 61 elementary schools.

In April 2016, the Ministry of Education announced funding for a $44-million JK-to-Grade 12 school to be located in Kingsville. The new school will consolidate students from Kingsville District High SchoolHarrow District High School, Kingsville Public School, and Jack Miner Public School, and may be the most expensive school the province has ever built.
