English is one of the most widely spoken language in the world.
Although it comes second to Chinese in the total number of speakers, English is the language you’ll be able to use most widely, as it’s spoken in more countries than any other language. That means that English is the language that will give you the best return for your efforts; after all, intellectual challenge aside, there’s little point putting a huge amount of time and effort into learning a language that you’ll hardly ever have the opportunity to use.
The British Council estimates that one in four people in the world speak English at some level of competence.
China may already be the largest English-speaking country in the world. The number of English Language learners in China is over 300 million. Almost as large as the entire population of the U.S.,

Knowledge of English therefore allows you to tap into far more of the world’s intellectual resources.
English allows you to attend international conferences and events
